A Babylon 5 AU

In 2008 an overeager scientist created a virus that effectively screwed over the Vorlons and Shadows plans, by reversing he genetic changes done in the human race.

Not bound by the genetic inhibitors like the other races of Known Space, the humans technologically evolved on a much faster pace and even managed to come closer to a solution of the Grand Unifying Theory. The parts of this solution lead mankind to discoveries of technologies only developed by the higher advanced races of Known Space.

When the Centauri made contact with the humans, they were surprised to find a race that had developed a gravimetric drive for their ships, as well as artificial gravity and other technologies more advanced than they should be.

But mankind didn't only evolve on a technological base. The virus introduced the genes of animals to the human genome. While it rewrote the parts manipulated by the Vorlons and Shadows, it also lead to mutations in mankind and the birth of Morphs, people with various different animalistic features, from changed shapes of ears over additional tails to full Morphs looking like biped animals.

The Mutants lead to a change in society towards less xenophobic tendencies. Morphs of all kinds are a full part of society.

The state that came to being out of the remains of the United Nations is the Terran Union, a state funded on the basis of the United States of America and the European Union.

Mankind spread out to the stars and fought wars. The last being the war against the Dilgar, ending in the rescue of more than a billion Dilgar from the nova their sun was to become. The rescued Dilgar became part of the Terran Union.

But now it is time for the Terran Union to meet the Minbari.
